Coinciding with World Environment Day, it has been announced today, (Friday, 5 June) that, Lady (Susan) Rice, recently appointed Chairman of Scottish Water, has taken over from Ian Marchant as Chair of Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group.

Lady Rice, who has been a Vice Chair of the Group since 2009, when the Group was formed, will take the reins and steer the Group with a business-focussed strategy, encouraging meaningful collaborations, partnerships and relevant activity to help all of civic society play its part in reaching climate change targets, a reduction of 42% greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.

Lady Rice commented: “I am delighted to take up this challenging role. No-one said change is easy and I firmly believe that by working collaboratively and smartly, we can be innovative in our approach and achieve the impact we need.

“We will continue to be a critical friend to the Scottish Government to ensure that the public and private sector support each other in their work towards a low carbon Scotland.

“The forthcoming 21st Convention of Parties (COP) in Paris will act as a prompt for a new and different approach. The next five years require attention, planning and behaviour change. Scotland’s world leading targets will certainly bring challenges, but challenges also bring opportunity.”

In the short term, Lady Rice will build a new team and will start to plan an engagement strategy that will look to challenge and inspire. Watch this space!
