Get out of your own way. That was the message from Lucy-Rose Walker and Gayle Mann of Entrepreneurial Spark (ESpark) at PRFest a few weeks ago. Mindset is the key to success.
It’s so simple, but it’s so true. We are the only people stopping us from progressing.
ESpark started as an accelerator hub for entrepreneurs. It’s now moving into looking at mindset and unlocking the potential of businesses and organisations through demonstrating what could be possible if you just get out of your own way.
Its website says this:
We are experts in thinking and acting like an entrepreneur for the purpose of personal growth and success, as well as creating positive social impacts. Impact inlcuding tangible stuff like increased turnover, profitability and return on investment in your business, the creation of jobs and raising investment – as well as the softer metrics like enabling individuals to understand and realise their true potential, to unleash their inner creativity, understand and apply their superpowers, and to take action to create a more fulfilling future for themselves.
I wrote a couple of years ago about entrepreneurial thinking and PR. People thought I was a bit mad! My thinking was around knowing all the different elements of business, doing the research, taking the risk and daring to be different. My thinking has since developed significantly as I expand my own development through learning from entrepreneurs in different countries and industries.
I’m reading a book just now, “How to be an overnight success” by Maria Hatzistefanis. I’m not 100% sold on it, but I’m sticking with it just now. The point is, you can’t be an overnight success. The overnight success comes from years of hard work and dedication. The book says anyone can be an entrepreneur and after talking to Lucy-Rose and Gayle and hearing about their experiences, they say anyone can. If you’ve got the passion for the business, you’ll make it happen.
However, what stops us from progressing and being successful? ESpark has three rules:
#1 Get out your own way
#2 I can’t do that…yet
#3 Progress is impossible without change. Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
Wow, or rather POW!
Your mindset is the key to everything. It’s the thing that can help you or hold you back.
If you look at our own PR and communication industry – it’s the mindset of practitioners and those businesses, clients, media and influencers who can help us be recognised as a strategic management function, or not. It’s the practitioners who will modernise their practice but only if their mindset is in the right place…
Mindset is powerful. It’s wonderful, even. However, we must harness a positive entrepreneurial mindset. Please do check out the slides here, as ESpark presented some amazing stats. Also, the most recent blog from ESpark makes complete sense. It says:
Entrepreneurs have become the super heroes of the business world with the likes of Steve Jobs, Walt Disney and Bill Gates often listed among the most well-known and ‘famous’ leaders of all time. It’s the impact that these iconic entrepreneurial leaders have had on their respective businesses and globally, that has inspired and prompted established corporates to follow suit in search for their own entrepreneurial leaders.
So, are you ready to get out of your own way? Do you need an entrepreneurial thinker like me to help you transform your business or unlock it’s real potential?
My thinking is always on the bigger picture for my own business. Just looked at #PRFest and PR Space as examples.
Challenges can always be turned into opportunities, it just takes the right mindset to do it. I’m pretty sure I blogged about that before, too…
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I hope it inspired you? Please share with your network as it might inspire others, too.
If you’d like to get in touch to chat about any opportunities, please do. I’d love to hear from you.
