Design consultancy, Randak, has developed a Scottish interior brand, “Toshie Mackintosh”, inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (CRM) and is off to New York as part of its international trade strategy.
The team decided to create a brand which could be used as a one-stop-solution for architects, designers and specifiers. It allows the designs for textiles and wallcoverings to be scaled up, down or colourways customised to suit. “Toshie” has evolved from its initial product range, into a unique interior offering with international appeal.
With international interest in CRM, the Scottish interior brand, Toshie, has been shown this year in Dubai and at Decorex in London. It will also be at the Boutique Hotel show in New York and part of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s joint trade mission with Manhattan Chamber of Commerce in the Big Apple in November.
Charles Randak, co-founder of Toshie Mackintosh, said: “During our studies at Glasgow’s School of Art we lived with the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his interior design – the tile motifs decorating the corridors and stairwells were indelibly imprinted on our minds and the inspiration for our designs.
“Over the years there was a frustration among us that no-one had produced a stylish and elegant interpretation of Mackintosh’s work, which could be evolved into a contemporary design. In most countries you can buy classic pieces based on distinguished designs from that country’s artists and designers – we thought it was time to do the same for Mackintosh and Scotland.
“After five years of development at last we’re excited to be launching our Toshie Mackintosh brand and taking the concepts and designs to the world.”
Toshie will finish its tour in London at Sleep, the hotel design event, 22-23 November.
